Your stories matter.

Delivered on October 17, 2025, “Rural Voices Can Reshape Media” highlighted my personal narrative of being a first-generation college student from rural Georgia, along with the consequences of the erosion of local journalism.

Video will be available for viewing by the end of 2025.

Imagine a world where headlines aren’t written about rural America, but by the people who live there. Where kids growing up in a holler or on a farm see themselves in bylines, behind cameras, and in the stories that matter.

On March 3, 2025, Georgia College Leadership Programs hosted the Honorable Judge Steve C. Jones as part of our Usery Forum on Leadership. Appointed by former President Obama in 2011, Jones served as a United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Georgia until 2025.

As the Inaugural W.J. Usery, Jr. Fellow, I had the distinct honor of moderating a panel with Judge Jones and Director of Leadership Programs, Harold Mock. Judge Jones offered personal anecdotes, endless wisdom, and truthful advice for aspiring law students.
